Where water comes together with other water (Là où les eaux se mêlent)

Théo Massoulier is developing a body of work in sculpture and video that draws on the imaginary world of cosmology and the sciences of evolution as much as on archaeology and the philosophical issues raised by the recent evolution of our societies.

A graduate of ENSBA Lyon in 2016, he is interested in questions relating to the Anthropocene and the notion of entropy. Giving an essential place to the materials he uses, the artist proceeds to meticulous heterogeneous assemblages, generating hybrid and dynamic forms where mineral elements, plants and human artefacts cohabit.

His series Anthropic Combinations of Entropic Elements comprises more than seventy sculptures that resemble small protean entities. The ensemble constitutes a body of sculptures that aim to highlight processes of hybridisation. His works, like coloured micro-landscapes, echo the devices of biological cultures in the laboratory. Spaces of culture where the porous and contaminating character of the evolutionary processes would give rise to new forms.
