Bruce Nauman always used ‘hands' as a theme in his work. The series Fingers and Holes counts eight etchings that each visualise one or more pairs of hands, Nauman's own hands. The largest one of the series shows a chain of ten hands, a kind of vicious circle; the index of each left hand penetrates the space created by the thumb of each right hand. The series Verso Recto succeeds the studies of the hand, but only shows the fingers. Bruce Nauman describes a landscape of images, anchored in the ground as if to applauding the power of the fingers.
